State of the Art holds a special place in the hearts of Ski and Snowboard festival goers.
The foyer to the conference centre transforms into a gallery space which seems to mark the end of hibernation and powder fuelled missions where you can’t make it 5 feet from the entrance without seeing a familiar goggle-tanned face.
It’s a place to catch up with friends old and new – chat about epic lines from the winter and new exploits summer may hold over a beer while exploring what fellow artists and shred partners have been creating during the darker months.
Sea to Sky Artists
Although the origins of many of the featured artists are as varied as the unique styles represented through paint, photography, sculpture and stitch – the vast majority of talent displayed at State of the Art resides in the Sea to Sky.
It is also very obvious that home is where the heart is – reflected deeply in mountain themed, adventure inspired pieces.
Even the grittier street style art seems to have a mountain flavour to it.
The Legend- Chili Thom
What would State of the Art be without the legendary Chili Thom representing his visions – and whose distinct style partly defines Sea to Sky art?
A State of the Art Staple
Since the show’s inception well over a decade ago, Chili has been a part of the festival every year.
It just wouldn’t be the same if his iconic pillow-crested trees, bright colourful landscapes, and dreamy waves weren’t part of the intermission beer run at timeless events like the 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown or the Pro Photographer Showdown.
Again, Chili’s art does not disappoint with a double sized display featuring some of his classic pieces right near the entrance.
Runs until April 14th
The 10,000 sq.ft gallery space in the lobby to the Whistler Conference Centre featuring over 50 artists is open from April 8 – 14 from 12 – 6pm and for the ticketed events as well.
